Nestled at the foot of Mount Meru, Arusha is a lively city known as the gateway to Tanzania’s northern circuit. Depending on your arrival time, you may relax at the lodge or explore local shops and markets. Later, your guide will brief you about the exciting safari ahead. Enjoy a comfortable dinner and overnight at a charming hotel or lodge.
Day 2: Arusha – Arusha National Park – Return to Arusha
After breakfast, head out to explore Arusha National Park, a lesser-known gem offering rich biodiversity. Enjoy scenic drives around the Momella Lakes and Ngurdoto Crater, and spot giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. If available, take a short ranger-led nature walk. The park offers beautiful views of both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. After a picnic lunch, continue your game viewing before returning to Arusha in the late afternoon. Spend your evening relaxing at your lodge and preparing for the next adventure.
Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Depart Arusha after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large herds of elephants and towering baobab trees. Begin your game drive upon arrival, discovering a park rich in wildlife including wildebeests, giraffes, lions, leopards, and hundreds of bird species. The Tarangire River attracts animals year-round, making it an excellent location for game viewing. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your safari. Check in at your lodge or tented camp in or near the park for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Full Day in Tarangire National Park
Spend the entire day exploring Tarangire’s varied landscapes. From open savannahs to seasonal swamps and acacia woodlands, the park offers something for everyone. With fewer crowds than other parks, it’s ideal for peaceful wildlife viewing. Spot predators like lions and cheetahs stalking prey or elephants bathing along the riverbanks. Enjoy a picnic lunch under the shade of a baobab, then continue your game drive in the afternoon. Return to your lodge in the evening for a relaxed dinner and a night under the stars.
Day 5: Tarangire – Lake Manyara – Karatu
After breakfast, depart Tarangire and head to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact yet diverse park known for tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, and flamingos lining the soda lake. Enjoy a scenic game drive through groundwater forests and open plains. Have lunch inside the park before continuing to Karatu, nestled in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, with time to relax and enjoy the views of rolling hills and coffee farms. Dinner and overnight in Karatu.
Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park
Start early and head to the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Descend into this vast volcanic caldera, home to the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa. Spot the Big Five: hippos, hyenas, and perhaps rare black rhinos. Enjoy a picnic lunch by a hippo pool. After your game drive, ascend the crater and continue into the Serengeti, watching the landscape change as you approach the endless plains. Arrive by evening, with game viewing en route. Dinner and overnight in Serengeti.
Day 7: Full Day in Serengeti National Park
Spend your day immersed in the magic of the Serengeti. Begin with a sunrise game drive to catch predators in action. The park’s diverse ecosystems support lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, wildebeests, and more. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Migration. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the wild and continue exploring different sections of the park. In the evening, return to your camp or lodge for a bush dinner and stories around the campfire beneath a starlit sky.
Day 8: Another Full Day in Serengeti
Another day in the Serengeti means more time to chase unforgettable moments. Head to new regions within the park for varied wildlife sightings. Perhaps follow a lion pride, visit a hippo pool, or capture panoramic photos of migrating herds. Your expert guide will tailor the day based on your interests and wildlife movement. Pause for a scenic lunch and continue exploring until sunset. Back at camp, unwind to the sounds of the wild and savor your final night in this legendary park.
Day 9: Serengeti – Karatu
After breakfast or a final early morning game drive, begin your journey back toward Karatu. Pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and optionally visit a Maasai village or the Olduvai Gorge — one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites. Arrive in Karatu by late afternoon, where you’ll enjoy a restful evening, hearty dinner, and perhaps a stroll through the gardens of your lodge, reminiscing about the wildlife wonders you’ve witnessed.
Day 10: Karatu – Arusha / Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)
Enjoy a final breakfast in the highlands before beginning your drive back to Arusha. Travel through scenic villages and farmland, arriving in the city by midday.
